Gerrit Janse Van Vuuren
Gerrit van Vuuren was born in Cape Town and matriculated at Jan van Riebeeck High in 1983. His two years of National Service were highlighted by parachute jumping, iron man competitions and leadership training. He studied law at the University of Stellenbosch where he obtained the degrees BA Law (1989) and LLB (1991). During his time at University, he participated in various sports, debating championships and served as Primarius of Dagbreek Residence/Hostel (1989) and vice-chairman of the Student’s Representative Council (1990).
After he completed his articles and practised for two years at Marais Muller Yekiso in Cape Town, he moved to Ceres in 1996 where he joined Johan Rauch. The firm was known as Rauch Van Vuuren from 1999, but changed its name to Joubert Van Vuuren Inc in 2008.
Gerrit was the attorney for Lushof Farms (Pty) Ltd in the landmark case reported as Ciba-Geigy (Pty) Ltd v Lushof Farms (Pty) Ltd 2002 SA 447 (SCA). In this matter the Appellate Court upheld the decision to keep Ciba Geigy as international company and manufacturer liable for substantial damages as result of a defective product.
Gerrit specializes in the fields of Negotiating property transactions; Contracts; Mediation; Commercial Law; Land Reform and Agricultural Projects and General Litigation.
Altus was born in Montagu where he matriculated in 1989, whereafter he studied law at the University of Stellenbosch. He played rugby and golf for Maties.
Altus obtained the degrees BComm Law in 1992 and LLB in 1994 whereafter he served his articles at Marais Muller Yekiso in Cape Town from 1995-1996. As admitted attorney and conveyancer he practised at Bill Tolken Hendrikse from 1997 until 2004 when he joined Gerrit van Vuuren at Ceres.
Altus served as chairperson of Ceres Business Initiative, Ceres Golf Club and as elder in the Ceres Valley Church.
In 2007 Altus obtained his Masters Degree (LLM) in Contract Law. He is also a Notary Public and specializes in the fields of Contract Law; Conveyancing; MVA’s; Negligence Claims and Commercial Law.
Both Directors provide their services pro bono on a monthly basis as Commissioner in the Small Claims Court.
Attie Heyns (BA LLB) is admitted as an advocate in the High Court of South Africa and as a solicitor in England and Wales. He was born in Sutherland and attended school in Cradock in the Eastern Cape. After his National Service he studied law at Stellenbosch, where he participated in various student activities and represented Maties at rugby. He was Primarius of Huis Marais Residence/Hostel in 1994.
Attie was first employed in the insurance industry in Ceres in 1996 and in Durbanville in 1997/1998. In 1998 he was contracted to play rugby in Wales where he spent six years. During his time in England and Wales he started to practice law and was admitted as a solicitor and he practised as such, appearing in Magistrates’ Courts and other tribunals and with counsel in the High Court and Crown Court. He returned to South Africa in 2004 and was admitted to the Cape Bar in 2005 where he remained a member until the end of 2014. He had a general commercial litigation practice involving all aspects of the law of contract, delict, banking, companies, insolvency and sports law matters.
During his time at the Bar he appeared in various divisions of the High Court across the country as well as in the Supreme Court of Appeal and the Constitutional Court. He acted as an arbitrator and mediator in commercial and sports law matters. He was also a Commissioner of the Small Claims Court in Cape Town.
Reinette van Staden
Reinette was born in Ladismith (Western Cape) where she matriculated in 2003.
She studied law at the University of Stellenbosch where she obtained her BComm Law (2006) and LLB (2008) degrees. After completing her articles at Joubert Van Vuuren Inc, she obtained her post graduate diploma in Tax Law (2012) from the University of Stellenbosch.
Reinette practice law at Joubert Van Vuuren Inc in the fields of Commercial Law; Deceased Estates and Security Tenure Applications.
Louis grew up in Albertinia and matriculated from Oakdale Agricultural School in Riversdale in 2009. He completed his studies in BComm Law (2012) and obtained his LLB degree in 2014. Louis joined Joubert Van Vuuren Inc on 01 December 2014 after the completion of his studies.
Bernadine was born and raised in Worcester and matriculated from Worcester Gymnasium in 2011. She completed her studies and obtained her LLB degree Cum Laude in 2015. She joined Joubert van Vuuren Inc on 01 January 2016.
